Choosing your wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make during the planning process. Beyond setting the backdrop for your wedding day, your venue influences everything from your design direction, wedding dress, and guest experience to the overall flow, your rentals, logistics, and budget.
The good news? San Diego has no shortage of beautiful wedding venues. From oceanfront resorts and romantic vineyards to historic estates and lush garden settings, there truly is something for every wedding style.
As a San Diego wedding planner and designer, these are 5 of my favorite San Diego wedding venues and what I love most about each one.
At a Glance: Which San Diego Wedding Venue Is Right for You?
For coastal luxury: L’Auberge Del Mar
For an Italian-inspired winery: Monserate Winery
For intimate historic charm: Darlington House
For refined resort luxury: Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa
For a lush garden estate: Grand Tradition Estate & Gardens
1. Monserate Winery – Tuscan Esate
Best for: Romantic Tuscan-Inspired Weddings

For couples dreaming of Italy without asking everyone to book a flight to Tuscany, Monserate Winery in Fallbrook is such a beautiful option.
The winery combines vineyards, lakes and old-world-inspired architecture with several different wedding settings. Monserate winery has 3 wedding venue locations, Tuscan Estate, Villa De Fiore, and it’s newest venue Monte Bella. Its Tuscan Estate location includes a lakeside ceremony setting, courtyard and Barrel Room with vaulted ceilings and stone architectural details.
This is also a venue where the surroundings can do a lot of the heavy lifting aesthetically. Instead of transforming a blank space, you can build your wedding design around the warm stone, vineyard landscape and Italian-inspired architecture.
Monserate Winery, Tuscan Estate is perfect for couples drawn to that romantic, old-world European look, looking for an intimate, smaller venue feel.
2. L’Auberge Del Mar
Best for: Coastal Luxury Weddings

Perched in the heart of Del Mar, L’Auberge Del Mar is one of my favorite options for couples who want an elevated coastal wedding without leaning into a traditional beach-wedding aesthetic.
The property offers several indoor and outdoor event spaces overlooking the Pacific, including Pacific Terrace, Sunset Terrace and the intimate Ocean Terrace. Pacific Terrace can accommodate celebrations of up to 200 guests, making L’Auberge an option for both intimate weddings and larger coastal celebrations.
What I especially love about L’Auberge is the versatility of the setting. The ocean is already such a strong design element that you can keep the wedding soft and romantic or layer in more editorial, elevated details without competing with the surroundings.
I’d choose L’Auberge for a couple who wants their wedding to feel effortlessly coastal, romantic and elevated, think soft florals, beautiful textures and a design that complements the ocean rather than competing with it.
3. Darlington House
Best for: Intimate Weddings with Historic Charm

Tucked away in La Jolla just steps from the coast, Darlington House has an entirely different feeling from a traditional San Diego resort venue.
The historic property blends architectural details with garden spaces, giving couples a setting that feels intimate, residential and full of character. The venue describes itself as combining historic charm with lush garden landscapes in the coastal neighborhood of La Jolla.
I especially love this one for couples who don’t necessarily want their wedding to feel like it took place at a “wedding venue.” There is something much more personal about an estate-style property, and the existing architecture gives you plenty of inspiration to pull into the rest of the design.
Darlington House is one of my favorites for a smaller wedding with a romantic, European feel. I’d lean into its character rather than over- designing it beautiful linens, layered candlelight, organic florals and thoughtful details would be gorgeous here.
4. Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa
Best for: Refined Luxury Estate Weddings

For couples looking for a true luxury wedding experience, Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa in Rancho Santa Fe belongs on the list.
The 45-acre property offers several indoor and outdoor settings, including the Croquet Lawn, Valencia Lawn and the more intimate Hacienda. Its two primary lawns can host events of up to 500 guests, while the Hacienda offers a private villa-style setting for celebrations of up to 120.
What sets Rancho Valencia apart to me is how naturally it lends itself to a full wedding-weekend experience. You aren’t limited to thinking about one ceremony and one reception space the resort provides opportunities for welcome events, rehearsal dinners and post-wedding gatherings as well.
I love Rancho Valencia for couples who want something polished and luxurious while still feeling warm and inviting. This is the kind of property where intentional design details and a really cohesive guest experience can make the wedding feel incredibly special.
5. Grand Tradition Estate & Gardens
Best for: Lush Garden Weddings

If your Pinterest board is filled with greenery, gardens, water features and romantic outdoor ceremonies, Grand Tradition Estate & Gardens in Fallbrook is worth seeing in person.
The estate was specifically developed as an event property and today includes two reception venues, three ceremony locations, extensive gardens, waterfalls and its recognizable heart-shaped lake. Couples can choose between the tropical garden atmosphere of Arbor Terrace or the more formal estate setting of Beverly Mansion.
Arbor Terrace includes a dramatic waterfall ceremony site and open-air pavilion, while Beverly Mansion offers a more traditional estate and ballroom experience.
Grand Tradition is a great choice for couples who want the venue itself to feel immersive. There are so many natural focal points throughout the property that your design can enhance what is already there rather than having to create an atmosphere from scratch.
Finding the Right San Diego Wedding Venue

There really isn’t one “best” wedding venue in San Diego, the right venue is the one that works for your guest count, priorities, budget and the way you want your wedding to feel.
Before touring venues, I always recommend thinking beyond the photos. Consider how your guests will move through the property, what is already included, where each part of the wedding will take place and how much additional design or rental support you’ll need to bring your vision to life.
And if you’re still trying to decide which direction feels right, that’s exactly where working with a planner early in the process can be incredibly helpful.
